So then, after patting ourselves on the back and leaving Le Malzieu Ville earlier this morning to avoid getting stuck in the snow......................
We got to Clermont-Ferrand and were driving up the (steep) hill to Puy de Dome (extinct volcano) when the heavy rain turned to heavy snow! Cars were slipping and sliding all over the place! We just could not maintain enough traction when we had to stop that we too got stuck.....
So we managed to get Wolfy off the main road onto a convenient side road and set up camp for the rest of the day! As it happens within 30 minutes or so the snow ploughs came along and cleared and gritted the road so that traffic could get moving again.
Fantastic! we packed up the van and set off for the Aire near the Puy de Dome so that we could be ready for our climb (walk) to the top in the morning.
WELL...... about half a mile before we got there the side road became so slippery that again we could proceed no further. So we turned around, drove a short way to the nearest village (La Font De L'Arbre) and parked in the car park to set up base camp once again!
Tonights cozy stopover!
The 'Wolf' in his element!
Now all of this is not such a deal actually. We both like snow and it is really quite seasonal, also since we are on a 'fasting day' today we have been kept busy so we have managed to avoid the grumpyness that usually sets in!...........Not only that but we have discovered that the village has an Artisan Boulangerie that specialises in all sorts of yummy bread and cakes!.........RESULT!
Therefore, our plan for Saturday morning is to gorge ourselves silly on lots of yummy bread stuff before walking to the top of the volcano............snow permitting!
