Cathar Castles (1) 3rd Nov

On Sunday 3rd Nov we climbed (walked) up to one of the Cathar castles in the Pyrenean region just west of Perpignan.  This one is Chateau de Puilaurens which sits high above the villages of Lapadrelle (where we are) and Puilauren.  The history of the Cathars is fascinating (see link)

View from Lapadrelle

A little closer....

On our way up through the forest we stumbled across this 'Fire Salamander'......a cute little fella about 6 inches long.

The castle is quite well preserved inside.  It is amazing to think that this is built right on top of a pinnacle of rock!

The view from the top over Lapadrelle village

Nothing to do with castles!  We saw this wood pile under one of the viaduct arches in the village (what a wood pile!)
